The exam at a glance

  • The GMC's practical exam: an OSCE of 16 clinical stations with simulated patients.
  • Two minutes to read each brief, then eight minutes with the patient.
  • Marked on three domains: data gathering, clinical management and interpersonal skills.
  • To pass you need a minimum number of stations passed and an overall pass score.
Official format: GMC: PLAB 2 (opens in a new tab)

What you get

What Exameds gives you for PLAB 2

  • Stations that run like the real ones: reading time, then eight minutes with a Simulated Patient.
  • Talk out loud or type. The patient reacts to what you say: change your words and their answers change, in a voice that matches.
  • A Virtual Examiner marks the three GMC domains: what you did, what you missed and the safety points.
  • After each station, how a strong candidate would handle it, with the guideline behind it.
  • Emergency stations with live observations, as on the day.
  • Study Tutor for any station or topic, by voice or by typing.

Stations, out loud

A patient who reacts to what you say

Station 4 · Chest pain07:41 left

It started this morning, a tight pain right across my chest.

Does the pain go anywhere else, like your arm or jaw?

Down my left arm, yes. Doctor, is it my heart?

It might be. I'll get an ECG now and give you something for the pain.

Virtual Examiner

Data gatheringCovered
Clinical managementMissed: aspirin
Interpersonal skillsAnswered the patient's worry
  • The real exam feel: a patient who reacts to what you say. Change your words and their answers change.
  • Eight minutes on the clock. Talk out loud and they reply in a matching voice, with worries and questions of their own.
  • Then a Virtual Examiner marks the three GMC domains: what you did, what you missed, the safety points.
  • After each station, how a strong candidate would handle it, with the guideline behind it.

Checked by a doctor

Every station, checked against current UK guidance

Original stations written to the published curriculum. Nothing copied from past papers or other banks.

  • A doctor checks every station against NICE, the BNF and the Resuscitation Council UK before it goes live.
  • Every explanation names the guideline it comes from.
  • Spot something wrong? Report any station in one tap and we look at it.
  • Exam preparation, not clinical guidance.

Questions

Do I need a microphone?
No. You can talk out loud using your browser's microphone, or type what you say. The patient replies on screen and, if you like, out loud.
How is a station marked?
A Virtual Examiner reads the whole conversation and marks the GMC's three domains: data gathering, clinical management and interpersonal skills. It lists what you did, what you missed and any safety points, and shows how a strong candidate would handle the station.
How many stations can I do?
Your plan includes a monthly AI allowance of about 60 stations, as well as Study Tutor use.

Exameds is exam preparation, not clinical guidance, and is not endorsed by the GMC.
