Study budget

Claim it from your study budget

If you are a doctor in UK training, a Exameds exam plan may be claimable from your study budget. Check your local policy, and get approval before you buy.

Not tax-deductible. A study budget is money your training region or employer sets aside for your learning. It is not tax relief: HMRC does not usually allow revision courses as a tax-deductible expense. This page is general information, not tax or financial advice.

Who can claim

Exam entry fees are paid by you and are not usually funded from a study budget.

How to claim

  1. Check your local policyFind your deanery's or trust's study leave or study budget policy (search "study budget" on your region's NHS England or deanery site, or ask your medical education manager). Check that online exam preparation is allowed and whether there is a limit.
  2. Get approval firstAsk your educational supervisor to approve it before you buy. Most regions only pay for courses approved in advance. Paste the text below into your study leave form or email.
  3. Buy the planChoose 3 or 6 months. Stripe emails you an invoice that names the exam, the course, the access period and the amount. You can open it again at any time from Billing in your profile menu.
  4. Claim it backSubmit the invoice with your claim, usually through your employer's expenses system, before your region's deadline.

Your invoice

Every purchase comes with an invoice from Stripe, our payment provider, showing your name and email, the exam, what the course includes, the access start and end dates, the amount paid, and “No VAT charged (Exameds is not VAT registered)”. It has a PDF download.
